Sampling - testing and approval of components
What is sampling?
In engineering, sampling is the testing and approval of sample parts of a new or revised product or manufacturing process. It serves to ensure the dimensional accuracy, function, material properties and processability of Moulded rubber parts and Silicone moulded parts.
For rubber compounds such as Plastic Composite Parts, Fabric Composite Parts and Metal Composite Parts sampling also includes the assessment of the interaction of several materials. In particular, the adhesion, material compatibility and process reliability of the connected components are tested.
What are the objectives of sampling?
Sampling is intended to ensure that the part produced meets the technical specifications. Typical test scopes are
- Dimensional accuracy
- Surface quality
- Material testing
- Functional test in the component assembly or application test
- Adhesion for composite parts (e.g. Rubber-metal, Multi-component injection moulding)
Sampling is often part of a quality-assured approval process, e.g. as part of PPAP (automotive), VDA or internal test plans.
What types of sampling are there?
- Initial sample inspection (EMP/EMPB) at the first start of production
- Follow-up sampling, e.g. for requalification after a longer production interruption
