Pressure rubbers
made to measure
A contact seal provides sealing via surface or line contact between two components that are pressed together by a screw, clamp or folding connection. In contrast to the O-ring there is no round cord cross-section in a groove, but rather a profile or sheet cut whose shape depends on the flange, cover or frame that it seals.
Rotationally symmetrical solid bodies that transmit an axial force over a surface to the mating component. We design both the diameter and height to suit your mounting and the required contact travel
Disc and plate pressing rubber
Stepped diameter that axially fixes and centres the component in the housing. The collar takes care of the positioning, while the end face provides the clamping pressure.
pressure rubber with collar
Multi-stepped contour for housings with different diameters. The gradation limits the press-in travel and defines the preload without an additional stop
stepped pressure pad
Conical lateral surface that deflects the insertion force into a radial contact pressure. Suitable for centring and clamping tasks with tolerance compensation via the taper angle
Conical pressure rubber
Sealing bodies that are pressed against a seat and close via their restoring force, the contour of the sealing surface being matched to the seat geometry and closing force
Valve pressure rubber
A vulcanised fabric ply limits the stretch of the profile and results in a dimensionally stable contour under load and dynamic forces
Rubber pressing pad with fabric reinforcement
For sealing points that also have to absorb force or be positioned, we vulcanise the rubber directly onto a metal or plastic carrier
pressure rubber with metal backing
Characteristics of Pressure rubbers
A pressure rubber combines functions that a rigid component cannot cover simultaneously: it introduces forces, compensates for dimensional deviations between components and seals the two opposing sides against each other. These properties are influenced by adjusting the geometry, Shore Hardness and rubber compound.
- Elastic tolerance compensation: dimensional deviations of the mounting are absorbed by the contact rubber through deformation, without the contact force changing significantly.
- Even force distribution: The force is introduced over the entire contact surface rather than at a single point. This reduces edge pressure and limits local overloading on the mating side of the mounting.
- Low compression set: To perform their function permanently, contact rubbers are usually made of rubber or silicone compounds that have a low compression set, retain their shape for a long time and provide a seal.
- Damping: The elastic pressure rubber absorbs shocks and vibrations and prevents them from being transmitted to the component on the opposite side.

Materials
for your pressure rubber
The material determines how long a contact rubber retains its contact force and which media it can withstand at the point of contact. We are happy to advise you on selecting the functionally and economically most suitable rubber or silicone for your application.
For valves, taps and container closures in contact with water and, if required, with drinking water compliant KTW certification.
For valve seats, clamping elements and seals in contact with oil, grease or compressed air in hydraulics and pneumatics.
Are used for valves and closure elements in chemical and process engineering that are exposed to aggressive media and continuous temperatures of up to approximately 220 °C.
Silicone retains its elasticity over a wide temperature range from -50 °C to +220 °C. The compression set remains low even after long periods under continuous load, meaning that the contact pressure at the valve seat is maintained.
Used for outdoor and refrigeration components as it withstands ozone, weather and refrigerants.
Are used for pressed sealing points in compressors, air conditioning circuits and engine components when oil contact and temperatures of up to approximately 150 °C coincide.
The economical alternative for large series with moderate requirements for temperature and media resistance, processed by injection moulding.
You have questions about
Pinch rollers
We have answers!
What distinguishes a contact rubber from an o-ring or a flat gasket?
An O-ring is installed as a continuous cord in a groove and achieves a seal via a defined compression. A flat gasket is clamped between two flange faces and does not transmit any force. The contact rubber, on the other hand, is a solid body that transmits force to a mating component and distributes it across the contact surface. The sealing effect is created as a result of the high contact pressure.
Why are compression rubbers set harder than traditional sealing elements?
A sealing element is intended to deform and seal a gap. A pressure rubber is intended to transmit force while remaining dimensionally stable. A soft compound bulges laterally under load and is better suited for sealing. Therefore, pressure rubbers are typically produced in higher Shore hardnesses.
How does the compression set affect the service life of a rubber pressure roller?
The compression set indicates what proportion of the deformation remains permanently in the component after unloading over a defined period and at a defined temperature. A high compression set means that the restoring force decreases during operation and the contact pressure drops. Since the component is permanently under load, a low compression set is necessary to maintain a uniform pressure over the long term.
What does KTW approval mean for a pressure rubber and when is it required?
A KTW-certified pressure rubber is used when it comes into contact with drinking water. Pressure rubbers with drinking water approval are therefore used, for example, in cisterns, drinking water pipes or pumps. We will agree the appropriate elastomer compound with you prior to order placement in order to achieve the correct risk class, as well as the associated documentation.
Can a rubber contact pad be designed so that it can only be installed in one direction?
Yes. Poka-yoke systems can be utilised by using different contours on the two end faces, such as a collar, stepped design or taper. Larger diameters will not fit into the counterbore, and a pressure rubber fitted the wrong way round cannot be pressed in as far as the stop. It becomes more difficult when both sides are geometrically similar and the fixture accommodates both orientations. For this case, we add a moulded-on lug, a single-sided chamfer or an off-centre hole which comes into contact with the fixture component in the incorrect orientation. If mechanical interlocking cannot be implemented structurally, it is possible to work using a marking built into the tool which is transferred to the component.
