Rubber grommets Individually made to measure for you
Grommets, cable glands or also protective grommets are elastic components that safely guide a cable through housings, sheet metal or plastic parts. They protect cables from sharp edges, reduce mechanical stress and seal the penetration against dust, moisture or dirt.
As a manufacturer of cable glands, we also produce glands as Rubber moulding, Silicone moulding, Rubber-metal connection, Rubber-plastic connection or as TPE moulded part in flexible batch sizes customised for your application.
An additional conical shaft that increases the bending radius of the cable.
Bend protection sleeves
Glands with an undercut circumferential groove for flexible sheet or housing thicknesses.
Vario grommets
Grommet sealed with a thin membrane, into which a cable can be fed if required.
Membrane grommet
Individually tailored rubber grommets and cable glands for your application.
Grommets special moulds
Additional lug for clamping a cable using a cable tie or clamp.

Performance characteristics a rubber grommet
To meet specified protection ratings such as IP67 or IP68, cable entries must be sealed against external influences. To achieve this, rubber grommet manufacturers, such as GUME, have a range of design options available to precisely adapt the cable entry grommets to customer requirements.
Outer alliance
The collar describes the radially formed support area of the rubber or silicone grommet, which rests on the edge of the housing opening. It serves for axial fixation and prevents the cable grommet from slipping through the mounting opening. At the same time, the collar can provide an additional sealing function against housings, sheet metal, or plastic parts. The wider the collar, the tighter the rubber grommet sits, but the more difficult the assembly also becomes.
Passageway
The passage forms the central opening of the grommet for the passage of cables, lines, or hoses. Structurally, cylindrical, conical, or reduced passages can be realised. Stepped passage geometries, star-shaped pre-scoring, or flexible lamella structures are also possible in order to accommodate different cable diameters or to create defined piercing points.
Collar
A continuous flange on the outside of the rubber grommet covers the mounting opening and serves as an additional sealing or contact surface. A collar reduces the ingress of dirt or moisture and the kinking of cables under load. Structurally, flat or pronounced collars, flexible sealing lips on the collar edge, and stepped collar geometries are possible.
Diaphragm / Sealing lip
A sealing lip or membrane inside the rubber grommet provides additional sealing within the cable gland. It presses against the cable or pipe passing through with slight pre-tension, creating a reliable seal against dust, splash water, or media. Sealing lips can be designed with one or more stages and compensate for tolerances in the diameter of the passed-through element.
Nut
The circumferential recess on the outer geometry of the rubber grommet serves for positive locking in a sheet metal or housing opening. During insertion, the groove engages with the edge of the breakthrough, ensuring a secure hold. Depending on the sheet metal width, the groove width is adjusted, and depending on the requirements, it is expanded with locking geometries or flexible snap contours.
Wall thickness
The wall thickness describes the material zone between the outer contour and the passage of the cable gland, influencing elasticity, insertion force, damping behaviour, and mechanical stability. Wall thicknesses can be uniform or variable with reinforced functional zones, flexible transition areas, or targeted material thickenings to optimise sealing and load absorption while ensuring high resilience.

Sectors / Applications of Rubber grommets
Rubber grommets are used in various industries such as mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering, the automotive industry, and medical technology.
They serve to reliably protect cables, lines, and bushings, to cushion component edges, and to securely seal transitions.
Nozzles in the Electronics Industry
Rubber grommets safely guide cables and lines through housings, control cabinet panels, or equipment walls. They protect the cable insulation from sharp-edged openings and simultaneously act as a sealing element against dust and moisture. Typical applications include cable entries in control enclosures, power supplies, sensor and control lines, and in control panels.
Nozzles in the Automotive industry
In vehicle construction, custom rubber grommets perform important protective and sealing functions when passing wiring harnesses and cables through body and housing structures. In commercial vehicles and agricultural machinery, for example, they are used in driver's cabs, engine compartment bulkheads or lighting systems, where they protect cables from abrasion, vibrations and dirt. They also provide protection for control cabinets, control units and body components in special vehicle construction – for example, in fire engines, municipal vehicles or special-purpose vehicles.
Nozzles in the Railway technology
In rail technology, rubber grommets secure the passage of electrical cables through car bodies, roof modules, and technical housings. They protect cable insulation from abrasion on metal edges and reduce stress from vibrations and vehicle movement. They are used, for example, in cable entries for lighting systems, door controls, sensor technology, air conditioning systems, and in control cabinet and control housings.

Solution
Do you have questions about rubber grommets?
We have answers!
Does GUME design and produce rubber grommets to customer specifications?
Yes, we are a rubber grommet manufacturer and can produce your rubber grommet to your exact specifications. You decide on the material, design, and applications. If required, we are also happy to assist with design optimised for manufacturing, material consultation and the optimisation of specified requirements such as bending radii for rubber or silicone grommets. Thanks to our in-house tool making facilities, this can also be done particularly quickly, with initial sample parts ready in up to 2 weeks, if desired.
From what quantities is it worth having your own tool for rubber grommets?
A custom tool for rubber grommets is usually worthwhile from medium batch sizes of approximately 1,000 pieces per year – depending on the component and material. A custom tool allows the geometry, material, and sealing function to be optimally adapted to the respective application. At the same time, the unit costs are lower than those of standard products. As a rubber grommet supplier with our own toolmaking facilities, we also manufacture prototypes and small batches for special requirements and custom rubber grommets from lot size 1.
What manufacturing processes does a rubber grommet manufacturer use?
Depending on the batch size, material, grommet geometry, tolerances, and special requests, we select the most economical process for your protective grommet or pass-through grommet. For this, we use compression moulding and transfer moulding for small quantities. For larger quantities, injection moulding is often used.
Welche Faktoren beeinflussen den Preis von Gummitüllen?
The price of rubber grommets is primarily determined by the material, component geometry, wall thicknesses, and the required tooling technology. The quantity, tolerance requirements, post-processing, and special properties such as temperature or media resistance also influence the costs. In principle, we always look for the most favourable setup for you and suggest optimisation possibilities to achieve the most economical series solution.
